Thessaloniki

What to do

Thessaloniki is mostly known for its bars, cafes and restaurants.

If you want to add a bit of culture to your trip and do some sight seeing, don't miss the hot spots:

  • Walk along the seafront ("paralia")
  • Visit the White Tower, the city's most famous monument
  • Enjoy the view from the "kastra" (castles)
  • Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art
  • Visit the Museum of Byzantine Culture
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum
  • See the city from the water
  • On your way to food coma...

    Brunch

    Food (lunch/dinner):

Our favourite spots for greek street food:

    • Try "trigona" aka triangles of dough filled with cream and soaked with syrup
    • Have bougatsa for breakfast (Ouzounis, Bougatsa Giannis) This special type of greek pastry can be found with many fillings, like cream, feta, spinach or minced meat.

    Drinks! drinks! drinks!

Marcelo's pro tip: Grab a cold coffee while strolling the city. Freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino are delicious and very refreshing.

    Bars (coffee & drinks)

    1. All coffee places & bars on the seafront between the White Tower & Aristotelous square
    2. Efimerida SKG
    3. Thermaikos
    4. Stin taratsa (roof top bar)
    5. Urania (roof top bar)
    6. Ypsilon
    7. Shark (east side)
    8. Rover

    Accommodation

We recommend you find a place in the centre of Thessaloniki so you can easily access all the cool places. If you don't find something that suits your needs in the centre, we recommend you stay in the eastern part of the city.

Another option could be staying at the eastern suburbs of the city (Perea, Michaniona) which are next to the sea and much closer to the venue.

Reach out to us if you would like advise on your accommodation.

    Getting around

The city centre is walkable and easy to navigate, and all the important stuff is within a 20-minute walk.

Public transport is cheap but not very reliable. Taxis are abundant and cheap, and they'd be the best means of transport for reaching places outside the centre (on the wedding day for example). You can use the app FREENOW (Android, iOS) for reliable and easy rides.

You can also take a short boat ride within the gulf to go from the city center to the east suburbs, where you can even swim and enjoy nice food by the beach.
